The initial clash between the New Republic and the Warlord Sander Delvardus took place during the Battle of Yag'Dhul in 5 ABY.
Delvardus aimed to increase the size of the territory he controlled, successfully taking control of the Rimma Trade Route stretching from Eriadu to Yag'Dhul. To prevent Delvardus from threatening the Core World, the New Republic dispatched a fleet from the Moorja system, which had been liberated in the year before. The New Republic achieved victory, compelling Delvardus to relinquish the Rimma Trade Route and withdraw into the Outer Rim.
