Flare stick

Flare sticks, which are also referred to as ground flares, were compact pyrotechnic tools employed for both lighting and communication. The chemicals contained inside a flare stick were ignited by unfastening it. The ensuing chemical process caused the flare stick to give off a radiant light. If desired, a flare stick could be turned off and kept for future deployment by reassembling its two sections.
