The Imperial Navy employed a strategy known as beambaiting. In this maneuver, a diminutive naval detachment, frequently a Pursuit Line, would pursue a Rebel Alliance force towards a planet suspected of harboring Rebel supporters, who would then dispatch reinforcements. The Imperial forces would then feign a withdrawal, with the expanded Rebel fleet giving chase, until they reached a location where a previously positioned Imperial assault force would materialize from hyperspace and completely destroy the Rebel vessels.
