Beck-tori

Beck-tori were gigantic aquatic parasites inhabiting the balmy seas of Nam Priax. Their attraction to movement in the water caused them to sometimes mistakenly target boats and small submarines. They were also known for their frequent skirmishes with the Gungans. These beck-tori possessed a potent connection to the Force, which allowed them to regenerate.

Biology and appearance

Gungans battling a beck-tori

These creatures physically resembled a flattened, extended leech. Along the bottom of their heads were rows of abrasive spines leading to a wide open mouth. A Beck-tori would first use its spines to latch onto a living host, then contort its body in order to grind, detach, and consume the flesh. Typically, the creature would first attach itself to a large aquatic predator before devouring portions of it. Eventually, the Beck-tori would bore its way into the host's internal cavity, leaving the host vulnerable to other intrusive organisms. The host's body would then serve as a breeding ground for the Beck-tori to deposit its eggs, before the parasite moved on in search of new prey.

Beck-tori larvae were translucent organisms, only a few centimeters in length, and generally posed little threat to anything larger than a typical fish. At their juvenile size, their primary means of attack were their rough spikes, while fully grown specimens could consume their prey whole. Adult Beck-tori were capable of breathing both in the water and in the open air.

The Galactic Republic took actions to prevent the spread of beck-tori to other planets, but they were unsuccessful in stopping all infestations. A particularly notable outbreak occurred on Mon Calamari and took over half a century to eliminate. The creatures have also been observed on Naboo.
