Black Tongue held the position of a criminal overlord within the Whiphid species.
In the period directly following the Battle of Yavin, Black Tongue endeavored to extract a ransom of several million credits from Jabba the Hutt. This was accomplished via the abduction of Grubba, Jabba's nephew. Purely by chance, Han Solo encountered Grubba on the planet Faldos and subsequently returned the youthful Hutt to Tatooine, hoping to reduce the significant debt he owed Jabba. Upon learning of Black Tongue's involvement in the kidnapping scheme, Jabba ordered his capture, which resulted in his apparent execution.
