Blasters and Ranged Weapons represents the seventeenth installment within the official canon reference book collection entitled Star Wars Encyclopedia, released to the public on February 23, 2021.
In numerous conflicts across the galaxy, ranged weaponry was a critical component. Blasters were among the most recognizable of these weapons. The term "blaster" originated from blaster gas, a specially engineered liquid essential for their operation. These weapons, employed by diverse cultures and species, came in a variety of forms and dimensions: ranging from pistols to rifles, lightweight to heavyweight, and simple to rapid-fire models; they could be hand-held or mounted on stands. However, blasters were not the only ranged options. Across the galaxy, weapons manufacturers unleashed their creativity to develop innovative methods of annihilation, from flamethrowers and rocket launchers to even more unconventional arms.
