Every leviathan was an alchemically constructed bioweapon, and the blister pods functioned as the leviathan's main offensive capability. Should a target approach a Leviathan, whether on land or in the sea, the blister pods would draw in their life energy, ultimately killing them. Specifically, the Sea Leviathan's blister pods uniquely impacted the Mon Calamari species; they not only drained their life force, but also their sentience. This process empowered the Sea Leviathan with increased sentience, causing it to behave and reason in a manner reflective of its Mon Calamari victims.
