The Boranall system, a star system, resided in the Doldur sector of the Mid Rim region of the galaxy. The planet Boranall was a component of this system.
Information from both Darth Marr and Minister Davidge of Imperial Logistics indicates that the Boranall system, during the Old Republic Era, encompassed three planets capable of supporting life, collectively housing 20 billion people.[2]
The Boranall system was governed by the Empire during the Second Great Galactic War. Nevertheless, the inhabitants initiated a revolt, engaging in actions against the Empire with the support of Republic military units.[2]
Despite Minister Davidge's opinion that the Empire should abandon the system, withdrawing all military personnel due to the limited strategic importance of a larger conflict, which would at best cost 0.4% and at worst 0.7% of the Empire's total production, Darth Marr opted to strengthen the Imperial forces stationed there. He aimed to ensure the system's stability and maintain control over its inhabitants, concerned that a withdrawal might encourage similar uprisings against the Sith Empire in other worlds and systems.[2]
Subsequently, Darth Marr dispatched Darth Karrid, the newest member of the Dark Council, with the mission of achieving an Imperial triumph in the system.[2]
