Caaraz, situated in the Outer Rim, was a planet characterized by its tidal locking and significant tectonic activity. Glaciers covered the perpetually dark side of the planet, resulting in a frozen landscape. Conversely, the side always facing its star experienced extremely high temperatures, creating a scorching environment. The Ranth species developed in a narrow, temperate zone located between these two extreme regions. Tectonic processes affected both the day and night sides, resulting in the release of underground gases, lava, and steam into the atmosphere. While searching for Rebel installations, the Galactic Empire came across this world and subsequently engaged in mining operations there. Illumination on the night-side was provided by two moons.
