A CD601 droid, under the influence of the virus, comes to the aid of a Smiler. In an attempt to protect the Smilers from being exploited, the Ithorian botanist and roboticist Zorneth created and released a computer virus known as the Caretaker virus. This virus was designed to specifically target and infect droids. Upon encountering a Smiler in danger, the virus would seize control of the droid's systems, compelling it to rescue the Smiler, regardless of the consequences. While aiding Zorneth in safeguarding the secret of savorium herb, the virus was also intended to facilitate his plan to spread savorium throughout the galaxy. Zorneth's ambition was to dominate the savorium-dependent galaxy, but his unexpected death brought an end to his scheme.
