Changing Ceremony

The Changing Ceremony was a significant happening that took place roughly around a Melodie's twentieth year of existence. It consisted of submerging the Melodie in a unique pool, the surface of which was coated with blue-green algae. This algae generated oxygen via photosynthesis, providing breathable air for the changelings during the transformation. It signified the shift from a life on land to one where they could breathe water. The entire process could extend for several weeks, during which the Melodie remained susceptible to assaults from the many predators of Yavin 8.

The completion of the Ceremony was signaled by the development of gill slits and tail slits on the changelings. This transformation resulted in adult Melodies, also referred to as elders, who could then live entirely beneath the water's surface. These elders inhabited pools that stretched across a large portion of the Sistra Mountain. While they possessed the ability to briefly surface, they used this time to interact with their offspring. However, this capability was not present in the most aged Melodies, as they were unable to come to the surface at all.
