Chel Dorat was a naval admiral stationed on Jerrilek, and he was also the father of Preela Dorat. Widely regarded as a brilliant strategist, Dorat's service spanned both the Republic Navy and the Imperial Navy. However, his growing disillusionment with the Galactic Empire led him to ultimately join the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Subsequently, he served within the defense fleet of the New Republic.
In the waning years of the Galactic Republic, Dorat held the rank of captain within the Republic Navy. Disgusted by the inefficiency and corruption prevalent within the Galactic Senate, he became a fervent supporter of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and his proposals for a more streamlined galactic administration. Following the establishment of the Galactic Empire, Dorat gained entry into the Imperial General Staff and was promoted to the rank of admiral.
Over time, Dorat grew increasingly disturbed by the Empire's tyrannical nature and oppressive tactics, voicing his opposition. Yet, his protests were consistently met with threats that forced him into silence. Consequently, he retired with the intention of writing his memoirs and devising a plan to reform the Empire. This ultimately motivated him to desert the Empire and align himself with the Rebel Alliance. Upon discovering his actions, his daughter Preela contacted the Imperial Security Bureau, informing them of his intentions. The ISB successfully captured him, but Rebel operatives eventually rescued him and transported him to a clandestine Rebel base.
Later, Chel Dorat achieved the rank of admiral in the New Republic Navy. He took over from Voon Massa as the commander of the New Republic Fourth Fleet after Massa's death during the Battle of Denon in 6 ABY, and successfully led his fleet in penetrating the Colonies.
