Chief of Defense Staff

The individual holding the position of Chief of Defense Staff served as the foremost military authority within the Grand Army of the Republic throughout the duration of the Clone Wars. Should the Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, namely Palpatine, be deemed incapable of fulfilling his responsibilities, the Chief of Defense Staff would assume control of the Grand Army until the selection of a replacement Chancellor.
