Children of the Jedi (abridged audiobook)
The abridged audiobook, Children of the Jedi, is a condensed version of the Star Wars Legends novel bearing the same title, penned by Barbara Hambly and shortened by Trebbe Johnson. Anthony Heald narrated the audiobook, which Bantam Doubleday Dell Audio Publishing initially put out as a set of two cassette tapes in April of 1995. David Rapkin took on the production duties, while Lars Hoel served as director. Later, on February 20 of 2007, Random House Audio made it available for digital download.
Publisher's summary
On a critical mission for the fledgling New Republic's survival, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca embark on a quest. Their objective is to locate the Jedi's long-missing offspring, a search that leads them to Belsavis, a once-thriving stronghold that has become a nearly forgotten, ice-covered world. Leia has heard stories about a Jedi departure from the planet's dark underground chambers. The tales also say that nobody who has entered those crypts since that exodus has ever returned.
Meanwhile, across the galaxy, Luke Skywalker is engaged in an equally perilous undertaking, the failure of which could spell doom for Leia, Han, and Chewbacca. Plagued by disturbing visions and guided by an unknown Force, Luke travels to a distant asteroid field above the planet Pzob. It is there that he stumbles upon the automated Dreadnaught Eye of Palpatine, a relic from the height of the galactic war.
Concealed within a dense gas cloud and inactive for three decades, the Eye of Palpatine is controlled by a highly advanced artificial intelligence system known as the Will. Once aboard the Dreadnaught, Luke receives guidance from the spirit of Callista, a Jedi Knight who sacrificed herself to halt the ship's rampage in the past. Now, Luke must learn from her how to permanently destroy it. The Will has been reactivated. The Eye of Palpatine is now in motion, with a single objective: the complete destruction of Belsavis.
The enigma of the crypts, the seemingly unstoppable force of the Will, the missing Jedi, and the growing romance between Luke and Callista all converge in the thrilling conclusion of Children of the Jedi, the newest installment in the epic Star Wars narrative.
