Corporal
A Rebel Alliance member held the rank of corporal.
Corporal signified a level in the military rank structure, typically found within army organizations. Generally, it was a step above the ranks of private or trooper, yet a step below that of a sergeant.
Within the ranks of the Imperial Army, the role of a corporal was as the second-in-command for a squad composed of nine man, selected and put forward for the position by the sergeant. This individual, being the most senior of the squad's eight troopers, was referred to as the "one-man."
This rank also saw usage among planetary police forces, for instance, in the Office of Peace and Security on Cularin.
Behind the scenes
In our world, the corporal rank is usually a relatively low NCO rank.
However, in the British Household Cavalry, all NCOs and warrant officers utilize variations of the corporal rank. The rank of Staff Corporal, which is mentioned in Star Wars Galaxies material, is a part of this system, even though only the rank title is considered canon in the Star Wars Legends continuity.
