Clone Lieutenant
A lieutenant among the Phase I clone troopers.
During the period of the Clone Wars, the designation Clone Lieutenants referred to those clone troopers who received specialized instruction as officers on the world of Kamino. These individuals were identifiable by the distinct blue patterns displayed on both their helmets and the armor covering their torsos. It was common, however, for them to utilize armor specifically painted to blend in with the surrounding terrain.
Role
Lieutenants who were clones held command over platoons, each consisting of four squads, which equated to a total of thirty-six soldiers. A significant number of these lieutenants participated in the First Battle of Geonosis, marking their initial combat deployment, alongside many other clone ranks. Typically, clone trooper lieutenants reported directly to their respective clone trooper captains.
Equipment
In the early stages of the Clone Wars, clone trooper lieutenants were recognized by their distinctive blue Phase I clone trooper armor; subsequently, armor designs shifted to differentiate by division rather than rank. ARC trooper lieutenants were equipped with ARC trooper armor, which offered certain units supplementary weaponry, such as concealed flamethrowers, as an option. These ARC lieutenants also wore kamas, skirt-like garments that provided blast protection, along with rangefinders affixed to their helmets, and command shoulder pauldrons. Nevertheless, the blue markings on the ARC lieutenants' armor were consistently maintained.
Position
Their rank was positioned above that of a sergeant but below that of a captain. The lieutenant rank among clones was also assigned to ARC trooper private units. They had greater command responsibilities, superior training, and a variety of weaponry, including flamethrowers mounted on their wrists.
