The cold assault battle droid, alternatively known as the snow droid, functioned as a Separatist battle droid akin to the B2 super battle droid, specifically deployed on planets characterized by arctic conditions.
These cold assault battle droids, also called "snow droids," were designed for operation in arctic environments. They were constructed using an expanded B2-series battle droid frame. However, their wrist blasters were removed to facilitate the enhanced grip strength of the snow droid. The heavy blaster rifle that took the place of the wrist blasters provided greater firepower, but the droid maintained effectiveness even if it lost this primary weapon.
A significant weakness in the cold assault battle droid's design was its large feet. While these feet provided stability on snowy terrain, they substantially reduced the droid's running speed.
During the Clone Wars, Saesee Tiin faced these droids during a mission on Diado. Teaming up with the thief Na-Jia, Saesee Tiin managed to eliminate the droids and the entire droid army by employing a captured CIS-Advanced starfighter, thus freeing the planet from CIS control.
