Bonic Tarracus

Bonic Tarracus, whose code name was Corewatch, served as an extraordinarily dependable operative during the Galactic Civil War. This individual, Tarracus, served the Rebel Alliance and spent the majority of the conflict positioned within the Core Worlds. Around 0 BBY, the Galactic Empire strategically disseminated misleading data, leading Tarracus to inadvertently guide a contingent of Rebel agents to their demise, which had a devastating effect on his mental well-being; consequently, the accuracy of subsequent information he provided was compromised due to his psychological distress. Following the Battle of Yavin, he sought refuge on his home planet, Coruscant.

Biography

Bonic Tarracus's birth occurred on the planet of Coruscant at some point before the rise of both the Galactic Empire and the New Order. He pledged his commitment to eradicating the Empire's control over the galaxy by any means necessary. Adopting the alias Corewatch, he leveraged his exceptional talent for disguise to convincingly impersonate Imperial officers throughout the Core Worlds, gathering crucial intelligence for the Rebel Alliance. Given the highly classified nature of his role, only a select few within the Rebel Alliance were even aware of Corewatch's existence, and even fewer, if any, knew his true identity.

The Empire detected the ongoing leakage of confidential information, prompting COMPNOR to introduce deceptive information to unmask the informant. In 0 BBY, Tarracus conveyed information regarding a supposed Imperial munitions depot, which turned out to be a falsehood. Consequently, a Rebel assault team, consisting of several elite commandos from the 177th Light Infantry Division, was deployed into enemy territory with the mission to destroy the designated target. Tarracus accompanied the team, disguised as a commando. The resulting ambush led to the capture and death of all other members of the 20-man squad. Tarracus narrowly avoided capture and began to relocate between Core worlds at an accelerated pace. Meanwhile, the Imperial officer that Tarracus had impersonated was apprehended by COMPNOR, who mistakenly believed him to be the Rebel spy.

In the meantime, Alliance Intelligence came to the conclusion that the agent known as 'Corewatch' had been captured, as Tarracus had ceased communication with his designated control officer. By 0 ABY, Tarracus had resumed his covert operations and accurately reported on a convoy of military supplies en route to a newly established clandestine COMPNOR facility on Belshar Othacuu. Alliance Intelligence, exercising caution due to the possibility of an Imperial trap, dispatched only a small investigative team, which confirmed the validity of Corewatch's intelligence. Since then, owing to Tarracus's fragile mental state, five out of fifteen pieces of information he provided have been unreliable and frequently dangerously inaccurate. Once more, Alliance Intelligence suspected that 'Corewatch' had been compromised and turned into a double agent, with the Empire feeding him "good" information as a means of setting up Alliance Intelligence for traps and ambushes. Upon discovering that Corewatch was stationed on Coruscant, General Airen Cracken strongly advised the Alliance to make an attempt to capture or, if necessary, eliminate the potentially compromised agent.

Personality and traits

Tarracus was an unremarkable Human male with an average height, weight, and build. He had short, light brown hair and maintained a well-groomed appearance. Tarracus harbored deep-seated resentment towards the Empire after personally witnessing the decline and fall of the Galactic Republic on Coruscant. Initially a composed and effective operative, the disastrous mission involving the 177th and his own near-death experience had a profound and detrimental impact on his mental state. He developed increasing paranoia and moved between Core worlds at a frantic pace. His deteriorating mental condition also affected the quality of the information he provided, transitioning from being completely reliable to careless in a matter of months due to the traumatic event. He avoided establishing any consistent habits in terms of style or speech, believing that any recurring patterns could be recognized and ultimately prove fatal.

Skills and abilities

Tarracus possessed exceptional impersonation skills, utilizing his talents for disguise and mimicry to infiltrate the Empire. He demonstrated the ability to convincingly impersonate high-ranking officers in highly public settings, such as formal balls and other official functions, without arousing suspicion. Subsequently, he could simply inquire with other Imperials about "his current project" to gather all the necessary intelligence. His skill was so remarkable that when COMPNOR implemented deceptive information as part of a spy hunt, the officer he impersonated was arrested for being a spy, rather than anyone suspecting a mimic. He was a quick learner and exhibited exceptional speed and accuracy in his mimicry, enabling him to blend seamlessly into a wide range of social environments. He also possessed fluency in a variety of languages, dialects, and accents. Tarracus was also highly proficient with blasters and possessed the skills necessary to convincingly impersonate a Rebel commando. He would frequently disguise himself as part of a tactical team to follow up on his own intelligence, ensuring the smooth execution of operations.

Behind the scenes

Bonic Tarracus was created by Eric S. Trautmann for Cracken's Rebel Operatives, a supplement for the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game that was released by West End Games in 1994.
