Crian Maru

Crian Maru, a Human female Jedi General, served within the Army of Light during the concluding period of the New Sith Wars. She had a Rodian Padawan by the name of Dree Vandap and piloted the Golden Song, a vessel named after her understanding of the Force. Ultimately, Crian came dangerously close to embracing the dark side and met her end at the Duel on Balowa in 1000 BBY.

Biography

During the era of the Sith Brotherhood of Darkness's rise, Crian Maru was a Human Jedi Knight. Early in her career, Crian accepted Dree Vandap, a young Rodian female, as her apprentice. During Crian's time as a mentor, the Jedi were engaged in a war against the Sith, and Crian undertook the task of locating and confronting the Dark Sider known by many names: the Marauder, the Madman, and the Dark Killer, Kaox Krul. Traveling throughout the galaxy aboard her starship, the Golden Song, Crian and her apprentice tracked Kaox Krul to the planet Harpori within the Balowa system. Following the Madman's path of destruction and darkness, Crian and her apprentice were finally able to determine Kaox's location.

However, the Marauder ambushed the two Jedi, and a fierce space battle ensued. Although they managed to survive his initial assault, their ship sustained significant damage. As Kaox attempted to deliver the final blow, the two Jedi managed to disable the dark sider's own ship, sending it crashing to the planet's surface below. With their ship beyond repair, the Jedi managed to execute a crash landing through their connection with the Force. Both the Jedi and the Madman survived the crash. However, the Jedi were far from safe, as Kaox remained determined to eliminate them. The Jedi were able to salvage a speeder bike from the wreckage of the Golden Song and began to flee the area, hoping to evade Krul until they could regroup.

Before they could escape, however, Kaox Krul engaged Dree in combat while Crian prepared the speeder bike for departure. She successfully started it, pulling Dree onto the bike as she sped off into the forest.

Fueled by dark side energies, Kaox was able to pursue the fleeing Jedi with remarkable speed, eventually catching up to them and destroying their bike with his lightsaber. The strike to the speeder caused Kaox to lose his footing, allowing Crian and Dree to escape on foot. For two days, Crian managed to keep herself and her apprentice ahead of Krul, but eventually, he began to close the gap.

Kaox confronted the Jedi Knight at a lake in the forest where she had stopped to rest. Realizing that she could no longer outrun the Madman, Crian engaged him in a fierce duel. Crian had to use all of her strength in the Force to match Kaox, and the two traded blow after blow until Dree intervened, forcing Kaox to fight an opponent on either side. Using the Force to hurl Crian into the lake, Kaox leaped over Crian's apprentice, landing behind her to deliver a fatal strike. Devastated by the loss of her apprentice, Crian succumbed to the anger that lay dormant within her. Crian and Krul eventually took their battle to the surface of the lake, using dark energies to levitate above the water. With so much energy focused on maintaining their positions in the air, the two simultaneously impaled each other. Crian's body vanished, becoming one with the Force, as did Krul's.
