The Crimson Stars were a group of pirates who made their base of operations on the planet of Volik, which is located in the Unknown Regions. Initially, the Crimson Stars ventured into the Unknown Regions as a segment of a larger pirate organization; however, after a conflict arose concerning a female, the group splintered, resulting in the formation of the Crimson Stars and another group, the Ebon Strikers. Command of the Crimson Stars was assumed by the Human named Vallkos, while his brother, Mallikhan, took leadership of the Ebon Strikers. These two pirate factions were rivals, and at one stage, their animosity nearly exploded into a full-scale war.
Typically, the Crimson Stars targeted shipping vessels traversing the Unknown Regions, and at intervals of several months, they would send a fleet of their ships to the Outer Rim Territories to acquire necessary provisions and trade any unusual or rare items that they had seized. Nevertheless, the Ebon Strikers would sometimes launch attacks on the Crimson Star flotillas as they were returning from their supply runs to the Outer Rim.
