He became an Imperial Navy trooper during the Galactic Civil War, a time when the Galactic Empire battled the Alliance to Restore the Republic. He served the Empire on the Star Destroyer Thunderflare. By 3 ABY, he had been transferred to the Super Star Destroyer Executor, the flagship commanded by the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader. A key part of Dainsom's duty on both Star Destroyers involved guarding sensitive areas of the ships'.
During the events of 3 ABY, the seasoned trooper Dainsom was present on the Executor when the Super Star Destroyer pursued the Millennium Falcon, a freighter carrying Rebel fugitives Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, and Lando Calrissian. This chase occurred after the Falcon escaped Cloud City on Bespin, a planet under Imperial occupation. Dainsom was near the warship's main bridge as the Millennium Falcon jumped to hyperspace.
While serving on the Executor's bridge in 3 ABY, Dainsom, a trooper guard, wore the standard Imperial Navy trooper uniform.
Dainsom's initial, brief appearance occurred near the end of the 1980 film Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. He is seen standing guard just outside the Executor's main bridge as Darth Vader walks by after the Millennium Falcon escaped from the Super Star Destroyer above Bespin. He was played by an uncredited actor. Later, in November 1997, a name and short backstory were given to Dainsom on the "Imperial Trooper Guard Dainsom" card from the Cloud City Limited expansion set for Decipher's Star Wars Customizable Card Game.
