Savage Opress undergoes a transformation via Nightsister magic.
The Witches of Dathomir generally referred to their application of the Force and its associated Force powers as Dathomir Magic.
Initially, Allya, a renegade Jedi who was exiled on Dathomir, imparted her knowledge of the Force to her offspring residing there, granting them a developmental edge over the other planet's inhabitants. Subsequently, Gethzerion established the Nightsisters and pioneered her distinct style of magic that her coven named Shadow Magic, or more informally, magicks. Consequently, the other witch clans began to refer to their own practices as Allyan Magic, as they believed that the Nightsisters had tarnished the original beauty of Allya's magic.
Dathomir Magic was divided into two distinct schools. The initial one, recognized as traditional Allyan Magic, adhered to the principles outlined in the Book of Law, a compilation of moral and ethical teachings maintained and adapted by each clan, originating from a version created by Allya for her daughters. The other, known as "Shadow Magic" by its creator, Gethzerion, was exclusive to the Nightsisters and did not necessitate incantations or other archaic rituals. The Book of Shadows, the Nightsisters' sacred text, foretold the future triumphs that they would accumulate in the cosmos.
Those who practiced Dathomir Magic perceived their actions as casting spells rather than harnessing the Force, frequently finding themselves unable to execute a "spell" without uttering its designated name or engaging in the associated ritualized singing, dancing, chanting, or writing. The Nightsisters often attributed the workings of the Force to the Spirits instead.
The Witches of Dathomir's proficiency in the Force evolved across numerous generations following Allya's arrival on Dathomir, as understanding was influenced by customs and the passage of time from Allya's initial teachings. It appeared that the Witches possessed specialized talents in particular facets of Force utilization, such as healing or Force Whirlwind, among others.
The Nightsisters believed that a shaman could summon the Spirits to generate green spirit ichor, which—by the time of the Clone Wars—became the fundamental component of their magicks. One such application of spirit ichor was the Water of Life.
During the Clone Wars, Mother Talzin and her Nightsister clan employed their magick to augment Savage Opress's physical attributes: elongating his horns, increasing his height, and enlarging his physique, thereby transforming him into an embodiment of raw rage. Later, Talzin utilized her magick to restore Darth Maul's sanity and provide him with prosthetic legs.
