Dauntarist held the position of commander within the ranks of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. During their tenure as commander, Dauntarist presented the protocol droid, known as C-D20, and its astromech droid counterpart, R2-RD, with a database containing various starship models that Rebel agents could utilize. Subsequent to this presentation, the two droids were assigned to a hangar, where they provided information to agents regarding the available starship options.
The character Dauntarist initially appeared in the "A Buyer's Guide to Alternative Starships" article, released in 1995. This article was featured in the fifth edition of the Star Wars Adventure Journal, a series of supplementary books for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game created by West End Games.
