The Desert Sail-20 Skiff was a compact, open-topped utility vehicle that utilized repulsorlift technology for propulsion. It bore a resemblance in its design to the Bantha-II cargo skiff manufactured by Ubrikkian Industries. Nevertheless, the sail skiffs were smaller and intended for use as personal, single-occupant aircraft. A distinguishing feature, unlike the Bantha IIs, was the presence of two blaster cannons mounted on each side of the lower fuselage.
As an accessory for action figures, the Desert sail skiff was released as part of the Return of the Jedi mini-rig toy line from Kenner. These mini-rigs, smaller than full vehicles or playsets, offered a more affordable option for consumers while still providing significant play value.
The packaging artwork presented Boba Fett operating the sail skiff across a barren landscape. It is thought that these vehicles were originally conceived as part of Jabba the Hutt's retinue, despite their absence from the film. However, the similar Floater-935 made an appearance in the animated television series Star Wars: Droids.
