Known for his extensive career voicing more than 5,000 film trailers, along with hundreds of thousands of TV and radio ads, Don LaFontaine (born August 26, 1940; died September 1, [2008]) was a prominent voice actor. LaFontaine, well-recognized for often using the expression "In a world...," playfully mocked his own persona many times. One such instance was a GEICO advertisement, which he credited with transforming his career by associating his famous voice with a visible identity.
The 1995 VHS version of The Making of Star Wars, a prize available through a Kellogg Company mail-in offer, featured LaFontaine as its narrator. He took over the role from the previous narrator, William Conrad. LaFontaine also provided voice work for numerous television spots and advertisements for the Special Edition re-release of the original trilogy in 1997. In addition, he recorded the behind-the-scenes introductions for the VHS editions.
