These unmanned freighters existed in multiple configurations, but all appeared to share vertical fins at the rear. As they were unmanned, these drone freighters operated without a crew, instead relying on a command relay for control. Interestingly, the freighter maintained a breathable atmosphere and included a flight deck, allowing for operation by a pilot and gunner.
During 3 ABY, an Imperial convoy comprised of drone freighters was traveling towards the Kuat Drive Yards, carrying hyperdrive parts. Upon discovering this convoy via Rebel intelligence operatives, the Alliance launched a bold operation to capture a single freighter.
