Effcee, a droid of the female-programming variety, collaborated with Deeve and Jarsa, who were both scouts employed by the Bureau of Scouting and Exploration Services. They journeyed together aboard the bureau's NRSS Founder on a mission to explore various planets in the hopes of discovering valuable resources.
In the course of one such endeavor, Effcee and Jarsa remained aboard the starship while Deeve ventured into a previously uncharted canyon. Jarsa occupied herself with upkeep duties, and Effcee monitored the dangerous planet, providing updates to Deeve as requested. Deeve requested a status report from Effcee and, shortly thereafter, encountered a local. Deeve subsequently requested Effcee to provide backup.
Despite Effcee's self-assessment as a competent pilot, Deeve held a different opinion and preferred she not pilot the vessel. Furthermore, Effcee displayed affection in her communications with Deeve, addressing him as "honey" and "baby," much to his annoyance, even after Deeve's attempts to alter her programming to eliminate these tendencies.
