EG-5 Jedi Hunter droid
The EG-5 Jedi Hunter droid, sometimes referred to as the EG droid, was a battle droid model manufactured by the InterGalactic Banking Clan during the period of the Clone Wars. Its primary function was the termination of Jedi Knights. Notable examples of this droid line include EG-05 and EG-07.
Overview
This droid possessed a generally humanoid form, exhibiting skeletal characteristics reminiscent of Grievous. Its head, encased in a helmet, featured a pair of red photoreceptors, and its chassis was painted in a red hue. Key attributes encompassed exceptional speed, agility, and the capability to wield two red lightsabers with impeccable technique.
History
As the Clone Wars continued, the Separatist Alliance experienced diminishing support within the Colonies. It was often stated that the Republic's victories were attributable to the fact that a single Jedi was worth a hundred droids in battle. Seeking to shift the war's momentum in their favor, the Sith Lord known as Count Dooku commissioned the creation of an assassin droid specifically designed to hunt and eliminate Jedi.
Although the EG-5 underwent testing on its own prototypes, Count Dooku remained doubtful about the ability of a droid to consistently triumph over a Jedi. Nonetheless, pleased to have yet another weapon at his disposal, Dooku resolved to evaluate its combat prowess.
Around 21 BBY, Jedi General Anakin Skywalker was dispatched to destroy a Separatist-controlled droid factory, where he encountered the lightsaber-wielding droid. Following an intense duel, Skywalker succeeded in severing its shoulder, which then allowed him to unleash a series of strikes before launching it into an electrode, resulting in the droid's destruction.
