Electrostatic field generators functioned as tools capable of rendering droids inoperative. Before the Battle of Naboo took place, a certain group of pirates employed these self-made electrostatic field generators to neutralize the droid defense forces belonging to the Trade Federation's mining operations situated within the Kellux system. Subsequently, the Sith Lord known as Darth Sidious dispatched his Sith apprentice, Darth Maul, with orders to eliminate the pirates.
