An engineering squad represented a fundamental organizational unit within the Imperial Army for deployments. These squads underwent significant technical instruction, producing numerous demolition and maintenance specialists, a point challenged by Crix Madine, an ex-Imperial officer.
These squads consisted of a blend of specialists possessing non-combat expertise coupled with limited combat instruction, and seasoned combatants who had received supplementary training in practical skills. Engineering squads were tasked with overcoming enemy defensive structures or navigating any impediment encountered on the battlefield. Their responsibilities also encompassed the ability to utilize, mend, or dismantle any equipment discovered in the field. Each squad included at least one veteran from a sharpshooter squad, proficient in demolitions and other combat proficiencies. This demolition expert presented a multi-faceted danger.
Engineering squads were equipped with diverse gear, lacking a uniform standard. Thermal detonators and various explosives were frequently available, alongside medpacs and Sensor Array, Portable units. Standard blasters were distributed to them, in addition to any hardware they could procure through requisition, theft, or fabrication. Echoing the composition of sharpshooter squad personnel, engineering squad members were selected from the ranks of Special Missions troopers.
