Special session of Congress
A Grand Convocation, also referred to as an Extraordinary Session or a special session of Congress, and sometimes a special session of the senate, represented a unique assembly of the Galactic Senate within the structure of the Galactic Republic. The Supreme Chancellor would convene this gathering, mandating the presence of every senator.
The Sith Lord Darth Sidious, secretly the Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, initiated an Extraordinary Session to proclaim his Declaration of a New Order, thereby establishing the Galactic Empire. This specific Extraordinary Session took place within the Grand Convocation Chamber situated on Coruscant. Mas Amedda, in his role as Vice Chair, extended an invitation to Bail Prestor Organa to attend. Palpatine asserted that the Jedi had engaged in an attempt to overthrow the Republic, and subsequently, Palpatine ascended to the position of Emperor of his newly formed empire. This ascent enabled the Sith Lord to exert control over the galaxy, aligning with the Grand Plan meticulously crafted by the Order of the Sith Lords. Emperor Palpatine's reign over the galaxy persisted for numerous years, culminating in his ultimate death at the hands of his former Sith apprentice, Darth Vader. Vader, having been redeemed and reverting to his former identity as Anakin Skywalker before his fall to the dark side of the Force, carried out this act on Death Star II during the Battle of Endor.
