Eriadu stood as one of the busiest manufacturing hubs located within the Outer Rim Territories.
Worlds dedicated to manufacturing, which are also known as foundry worlds, industrial worlds, or even mechworlds, were planets or moons characterized by the presence of expansive factories or other forms of significant industrial complexes across their surfaces. These worlds frequently had an abundance of minerals like iron, but they also suffered from severe environmental degradation, with phenomena like acid rain occurring regularly. Despite the environmental issues, these factory worlds often supported substantial populations and were recognized as major economic centers for trade and manufacturing activities throughout the galaxy.
History
During the Clone Wars era, the Confederacy of Independent Systems utilized factory worlds to produce vast quantities of battle droids for their military forces. Geonosis served as one such factory world, alongside Metalorn, which subsequently fell under the control of the Imperial regime. The Confederacy also made an attempt to transform Utapau into another factory world by constructing self-replicating Techno Union facilities, with the intention of gradually converting the entire planet into an industrialized wasteland filled with assembly lines and refineries. However, the Republic's invasion brought these plans to a halt.
In certain instances, like the Kol Huro system, entire systems were exclusively focused on manufacturing activities. Numerous galactic sectors were heavily industrialized, with factory worlds scattered across their territories. The Kuat, Corellian, and Humbarine sectors were particularly notable examples. During the time of the Galactic Civil War, the planet Balmorra functioned as a crucial factory world for the Imperial Army, serving as the primary producer of the AT-ST walker.
