Falang Minor, alternatively known simply as Falang, functioned as a fortress world under the Galactic Republic umbrella, situated within the Thanium Worlds region of the Outer Rim Territories. Characterized by its cold temperatures and frequent rain, this planet was considered a possible place of origin for the Jedi Order. Following the Tionese War, which concluded with the defeat of the Honorable Union of Desevro and Tion, a network of fortress worlds, including Falang Minor, was established. From these locations, Jedi Knights maintained vigilance over the Tion Cluster. Post-war, a Republic soldier dedicated twelve years to assisting the Jedi watchmen by monitoring starships, intelligence, and transmissions originating from the Tion Cluster. During his service on Falang Minor, the soldier recorded his autobiographical experiences, complete with audio and visual elements, onto a Baragwin sense lattice.
The terrestrial world Falang Minor, often shortened to Falang, was positioned within the Falang Minor system, which itself resided within the Thanium Worlds sector of the Outer Rim Territories, specifically the Trans-Hydian section. Its climate was cold, marked by persistent rainfall, and the planet lacked both animal and plant life.

Falang Minor has been suggested as one of the potential starting points for the Jedi Order, comprised of Force-sensitives, sometime between 25,000 BBY and 24,000 BBY. However, the Order ultimately traced its origins back to Tython, a planet located in the Deep Core. Around 23,900 BBY, after the Honorable Union of Desevro and Tion was defeated in the Tionese War, the Galactic Republic established a chain of fortress worlds along the Coreward edge of the Tion Cluster, which later became part of the Republic. These fortress worlds included Falang Minor, Haashimut, and Ossus, which served as the Jedi Order's home at that time. Jedi Knights stationed on these worlds acted as watchmen for the Republic, overseeing the volatile star cluster. Despite its role as a Republic fortress world, Falang Minor remained nominally outside the Republic's formal boundaries around 22,000 BBY.
Soon after the Tionese War concluded, a Republic Guardsman was assigned to assist the Jedi watchmen on Falang Minor. This soldier, who had been a boy during the war, had survived a Tionese attack that destroyed their home on Okator VIII. Following this event, the youth joined the Republic Military. The soldier's responsibilities on Falang Minor involved monitoring starship movements, gathering intelligence, and intercepting transmissions from the Tion Cluster.
After a twelve year assignment on Falang Minor, the soldier created an audio-visual recording of the attack on Okator VIII using a Baragwin sense lattice. In this recording, the soldier expressed dissatisfaction with both their assigned world, in contrast to the idyllic Okator VIII, and the nature of their duties, which fostered excessive introspection. Nevertheless, the soldier reiterated their distrust of the Tionese and their commitment to continuous observation, along with their belief that all personnel on Falang Minor shared this dedication.
The first mention of Falang Minor appeared in the 2004 sourcebook Geonosis and the Outer Rim Worlds, published by Wizards of the Coast. The Essential Atlas, a reference book from 2009, placed the Falang Minor system, and thus the planet, within grid square R-6. A series of articles published on the StarWars.com Blog in 2014, titled Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut and containing content cut from the 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare, introduced the shortened name "Falang".
