Fifth Deep Core Army

The Fifth Deep Core Army, also known as Shadow Hand Command, or more simply, the Fifth Army, functioned as a Sector Army within the Grand Army of the Republic during the era of the Clone Wars, with its primary mission being the defense of Sector 5. This army, headquartered in the Odik system, was one of six Reserve Sector Armies within the GAR, initially tasked with maintaining a strong presence in the Deep Core region. Early in the conflict, however, a significant portion of this Sector Army was redeployed to more strategically vital areas to reinforce other Galactic Republic forces; consequently, the 5th maintained only a minimal presence within the Deep Core itself. At some point before the founding of the Galactic Empire, the successor state to the Republic, specifically on 19 BBY (16:5:23), the Republic enacted the Sector Governance Decree. This decree assigned twenty Moffs to oversee each of the Sector Armies; the Fifth was placed under the command of Moff Gann. Gann was subsequently promoted to the rank of Grand Moff and retained his authority until at least 17 ABY. It's worth noting that the Sector Army's name was shared with Shadow Hand, a title traditionally given to the second-in-command of a Sith Master, a practice that originated on Korriban, the homeworld of the Sith.

Behind the scenes

The Fifth Deep Core Army received its initial mention in The Essential Guide to Warfare, a reference book released in 2012, which included summaries of all twenty Sector Armies.
