The Loag During the time of the Old Republic, the Loag, a band of assassins, exerted oppressive control over the planet of Merisee. It is said that six Jedi completely eradicated them after a year-long campaign. A trio of these Jedi perished during the violent removal of the cult. Upon the campaign's conclusion, the Jedi seized the Loag Dagger, a weapon upon which the assassins swore their sacred blood oaths. This dagger was then entrusted to the Galactic Museum located on Coruscant.
During the Imperial era, the Loag resurfaced on Merisee. Though hidden from the average citizen of Merisee, their actions had considerable consequences across the planet. The Loag maintained a clandestine stronghold, carved into the interior of a dormant volcano situated near a land bridge.
Establishing contact with the Loag proved exceedingly challenging. Public exposure of their existence would have prompted intervention from either Merisee's governing body or the Empire, leading to their destruction. The Loag cult accepted contracts from various sources, including crime lords, dissatisfied governments, and even Imperial officers and dignitaries seeking to silence individuals. Throughout the galaxy, the Loag cult had numerous devoted informants who would contact potential clients. Those who attempted to betray the Loag met their demise at the hands of Loag assassins. Even the Loag's informants were unaware of when they were being watched. While assassination fees were substantial (with the lowest known fee being 5,000 credits), the Loag was renowned for its ability to successfully fulfill its contracts.

During the Imperial era, the Loag experienced internal conflict. The larger group within the Loag prioritized maintaining anonymity, mindful of past events and believing that seizing power prematurely was unwise. Their focus was on conducting business discreetly, primarily off-world, and protecting their interests.
Conversely, a smaller faction, comprising about five percent of the Loag but led by influential figures, advocated for increased visibility and wielding power over Merisee's affairs. They were prepared to act independently if they perceived any threat to the Loag. Furthermore, they were confident that the Empire would not suppress their power grab if they pledged allegiance to the Empire and the sector Moff, who held Branff Miro, Merisee's virtually unseen and ineffective governor, in open contempt.
As of 11 ABY, the Loag remained active, as evidenced by the discovery that the Loag Dagger had gone missing on Coruscant.
