The head of the Imperial bodyguard, who was a Jedi, held the designation of First Bodyguard. Prior to the Jedi Rebellion and the subsequent rise of the Knights of the Sith in place of the Jedi, Kane Starkiller occupied the position of First Bodyguard.
In an initial version, Akira Valor was the new name given to Kane. Nevertheless, his character stayed consistent in every other aspect.
The idea of Jedi serving as bodyguards for the Empire might have been a source of inspiration for the creation of the Imperial Knights featured in the Star Wars: Legacy comic book series.
