Folende, a planet classified as an agriworld, could be found in the Folende system. This system resided within the Tion Hegemony, specifically in the Slice region of the Outer Rim Territories. Through the Desevran Trace hyperlane, Folende maintained a connection to the planets of Desevro and Omman. For many centuries, Folende's agricultural production was unremarkable, with Omman seen as a rival.
However, the situation on Folende underwent a transformation during the final decades of the Galactic Republic's era. By 21 BBY, the planet enlisted the services of cloners from the far-off world of Kamino to produce cloned workers for its agricultural sector. Subsequently, Folende witnessed a significant surge in its output, evolving into a crucial supplier of staple foods for impoverished planets along the Far Perlemian hyperspace route. The reasons for Folende's increased production were not widely understood.
The initial mention of Folende occurred in Republic Commando: True Colors, a novel penned by Karen Traviss in 2007. Later, in 2009, the reference work The Essential Atlas located the Folende system, and consequently the planet Folende itself, within grid coordinate S-5.
