The Gamma-class Light Personnel Carrier functioned as an Imperial shuttle utilized for the resupply of forces stationed on planets. It was also known by the designation Telgorn II lpc Gamma-class personnel shuttle, while Rebel ground troops gave them the moniker Gift boxes.
The Gamma-class Light Personnel Carrier represented a significant modification of the Gamma-class assault shuttle, engineered to facilitate the rapid provisioning of planetary garrisons. It featured a substantial landing gear assembly that elevated the ship's hull two meters above the ground when fully deployed. The deployment of troops and materiel was accomplished through a ramp located on the ship's underside.
In contrast to its assault shuttle counterpart, the Light Personnel Carrier was only equipped with a light armament consisting of four laser cannons.
Rebel ground forces gave these shuttles the name "gift boxes" because of their innocuous external look, which belied their capacity to deploy a complete contingent of soldiers.
One example of these shuttles was carried aboard the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Impending Doom, the command ship of Moff Nile Owen. It met its end during the Skirmish at Najarka.
The Gamma-class Light Personnel Carrier made its initial appearance in the West End Games adventure module titled The Abduction, which subsequently saw republication within the adventure compilation Classic Adventures.
Although the statistical data presented in the adventures indicates that the shuttle is manned by only three gunners, the textual description specifies the presence of four, each responsible for operating a single laser cannon. Furthermore, The Abduction omits the inclusion of a hyperdrive system for the shuttle, whereas Classic Adventures credits it with a Class 2 hyperdrive and a Class 18 backup system, mirroring the specifications of the Assault Shuttle variant.
