The Great Canyon Clan, a village of Dathomiri Witches, was situated near the Great Canyon on the planet Dathomir. Its establishment occurred after the remaining Nightsisters from Gethzerion's order were unable to atone for their involvement with the dark side. Their core principles were based on Gethzerion's Book of Shadows, though they discarded certain customs to facilitate their advancement.
One such abandoned tradition was the notion that males were lesser than females. Nevertheless, some members continued to harbor the biased opinion that men were less adept in Force-sensitivity. When Brakiss traveled to Dathomir in search of individuals to enlist for his Shadow Academy, the clan formed an alliance with the Second Imperium, the movement he was affiliated with. The Great Canyon Clan provided young members to the Shadow Academy for instruction, occasionally seeking out new candidates from other Dathomiri clans for the Shadow Academy. The clan was compensated with military supplies and backing from the Second Imperium.
The clan village consisted of concentric circles of tents, residences, slave housing, and workshops that encircled the dwelling of Clan Mother Mintinee (referred to locally as the Waterhouse because of its location near the clan's well). Owing to Mintinee's conviction in the potency of talismans, chimney-like stone formations housing magical talismans were also dispersed throughout the village. The village featured a heavily defended stockade for confining rancors, which was guarded by a pair of AT-STs. A compacted dirt area served as a landing zone for supply vessels utilized by the clan.
