A grenadier droid
During the Clone Wars, the grenadier droid served the Confederacy of Independent Systems as an effective short-range artillery unit. It was a type of battle droid within the Separatist Droid Army.
The grenadier droid's physical design incorporated a compact, cylindrical shape and featured four legs resembling those of a crab, similar to the droideka. These droids were armed with two grenade launchers and could unleash a constant stream of bombs upon enemy forces. However, this firepower came at the cost of maneuverability; the droids had to be completely stationary to deploy their weaponry. Consequently, their role was primarily limited to providing support.
Darth Vader encountered grenadier droids positioned alongside an Armored Assault Tank within the Klegger Corp Mining Facility during his Mission to Mustafar where he was tasked with eliminating the Separatist Council.
The grenadier droid's conceptualization occurred early in the development of the video game based on Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. While it was ultimately omitted from the PlayStation 2 version, it did appear in the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance versions. It was featured on the "Mustafar Hangar" level, providing supporting fire for a boss encounter against an Armored Assault Tank, alongside a B1-Series battle droid equipped with an ion rifle. The grenadier droid is crucial for completing the level, as the only way to defeat the AAT is by using Force pushing to direct the grenades at the AAT's laser cannons. Therefore, the droid will continuously respawn after being destroyed until the AAT's cannons are disabled.
Even though it was cut from the PlayStation 2 release, concept illustrations of the grenadier droid are unlockable and viewable.
Given that the scenario of Darth Vader battling his way through the mining facility to reach the Separatist war room seems to contradict both the film and the novelization, this article operates under the assumption that while Darth Vader encountered grenadier droids within the facility, an actual battle may not have transpired as he proceeded toward the control room.
