Gribbet, a bounty hunter of the Rybet species, plied his trade on Ord Mantell during the reign of the Galactic Empire.
Gribbet partnered with another bounty hunter named Skorr, and both possessed an Imperial permit authorizing their operations on Ord Mantell.
Shortly following the Battle of Yavin, an Imperial fleet commenced exercises in the Ord Mantell system. The heightened Imperial presence resulted in meager bounties for available targets, prompting Skorr to contemplate seeking employment elsewhere. However, at that moment, Gribbet spotted a group of newly arrived individuals, including Han Solo along with his associates Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker, and Leia Organa, who had landed on Ord Mantell to repair their vessel, the Millennium Falcon.
Skorr reconsidered his decision, enticed by the substantial reward offered by Jabba Desilijic Tiure for Solo's capture. Aware of the formidable combat skills of Solo and Chewbacca, he devised a scheme to ensnare Solo by exploiting his human allies, whom he perceived as Solo's vulnerability.

Soon after, a disagreement with Solo caused Organa to depart in anger, and Skywalker pursued her to ensure her safety. Gribbet, who was observing, informed Skorr of this development. Consequently, Skorr ambushed and incapacitated Organa while the Rybet remained concealed. Skywalker, witnessing Organa's peril, activated his lightsaber, but Gribbet launched a surprise attack and stunned him from behind.
Subsequently, Skorr covertly attached a tracking device to Skywalker's lightsaber, along with a holographic message intended for Solo: He offered to release his hostages in exchange for Solo's surrender, unarmed and without his Wookiee companion. Solo realized that a strategic plan was essential. Initially, he left the Falcon unoccupied on the landing platform, but with its engines preheated, intending to deceive Skorr into believing Chewbacca was onboard. However, Chewbacca would proceed to the rendezvous point using an alternative transport equipped with a tractor beam to rescue Solo and his comrades.
Skorr inquired with Gribbet about the precise location of the Falcon, believing Chewbacca to be inside. Ultimately, the prisoners successfully escaped with Solo and Chewbacca.
Refusing to concede defeat, Skorr and Gribbet boarded their own spacecraft to pursue them. They initiated a firefight in the orbit of Ord Mantell, in proximity to the Imperial maneuvers, drawing the attention of the local Admiral.
The pursuit led them to the twin moons of Ord Mantell, where Skywalker discerned the unfolding situation. He and Solo retrieved the tracking device from the lightsaber. Following Organa's suggestion, they attached the device to an escape pod and launched it into an Imperial-controlled zone. Skorr pursued the pod and, upon realizing his error, his ship was ensnared by the Imperial flagship's tractor beam. The Admiral determined that these prisoners would serve as a cautionary example to others.
Gribbet's fate thereafter remains unknown.
