GSAD-43, an AD armorer droid from Arakyd Industries, found itself initially in the service of House Salaktori after Arakyd's failed attempt to secure a sale of the design to the Galactic Empire. Tasked with assisting Janna Relasi, a bounty hunter, GSAD-43 developed a close connection with its assigned mistress. Upon Relasi's death in the line of duty, her dying wish was for the droid to apprehend those responsible. Taking this request to heart, and much to Salaktori's dismay, GSAD-43 embarked on a relentless pursuit of Janna Relasi's murderers across the hyperlanes, effectively becoming a bounty hunter itself. Even after successfully capturing one of the individuals responsible, GSAD-43 remained convinced that other perpetrators were still at large. Consequently, it continued its mission with enhanced weaponry and improved skill software, persistently questioning its captives with the foreboding query: "Are you one of them?"
Arakyd Industries constructed GSAD-43, an AD armorer droid, alongside several other units, with the expectation that the Galactic Empire would purchase their new droid design. However, following a thorough evaluation of the model's effectiveness, Imperial authorities opted not to proceed with the acquisition. Having already produced a quantity of AD droids, Arakyd Industries proceeded to sell some of them to organizations of bounty hunters. GSAD-43 subsequently became the property of House Salaktori, a prominent member of the Bounty Hunters' Guild. Salaktori assigned GSAD-43 to Janna Relasi, a female bounty hunter employed by the House. After collaborating on numerous hunts, Relasi grew to regard GSAD-43 as a trusted companion, and the droid, in turn, became deeply attached to its mistress.
During a particular hunt, Relasi sustained fatal injuries and barely managed to return to her own starship. With her final breath, she implored GSAD-43 to capture those who had harmed her, as she was no longer capable of doing so herself. GSAD-43 interpreted this as a direct order, despite Relasi's inability to specifically identify the murderers, except for the fact that there were multiple individuals involved. In the weeks that followed, GSAD-43 utilized the computer aboard Relasi's ship to investigate her recent activities. Furthermore, it enhanced the firepower and tracking capabilities of its own hardware. Once prepared, it successfully located and apprehended one of the murderers.
However, this single capture did not satisfy the droid's sense of duty, as Relasi had referred to "them," a collective, as the perpetrators of her demise. GSAD-43 persisted in tracking individuals across the hyperlanes, seeking clues related to the conspiracy that had resulted in its owner's death. These activities and its unusual background were far from discreet, much to the embarrassment of House Salaktori — the Guild found the situation humiliating, as an armorer droid acting as a bounty hunter was considered absurd. During its travels, it encountered and impressed Devon Fuller, who later inquired about the droid's history and shared the information on Cynabar's Droid Datalog.
Being an armorer droid, GSAD-43 possessed advanced proficiencies in repairing weaponry and military equipment, encompassing blasters, armors, jetpacks, and repulsorlifts. It also had the standard equipment of AD armorer droids, such as a Verbobrain, a repulsorlift unit with a flight ceiling of 1 meter, and a communications link. The modifications it made to itself to function as a bounty hunter included a sensor pod to improve its searching abilities and an internal blaster/missile launcher weapons pod. GSAD-34 was notorious for asking "Are you one of them?" to those it captured.
Despite its considerable firepower and skills, the very notion of a violent armorer droid was often met with ridicule, as exemplified by the case of Grannt.
GSAD-43 was initially mentioned in Galaxy Guide 10: Bounty Hunters, authored by Rick D. Stuart. This publication also marked the debut of the AD armorer droid model. The book featured an illustration of GSAD-43, created by David Plunkett.
In accordance with its role-playing statistics, GSAD-43 also enhanced its skills in investigation, bureaucracy, and law enforcement.
