Hanod was a planet-like celestial body situated within the Hanod system. This system resided within the Corva sector of the New Territories, itself located within the Outer Rim Territories. By the year 38 ABY, Doctor Milanda Vorgan, a xenolinguist, documented in her publication "The Written Word: A Brief Introduction to the Writing Systems of Galactic Basic" that military bunkers on Hanod were marked with characters from the ancient Common Sith writing system.
The article "The Written Word" introduced Hanod to the Star Wars expanded universe. This article was written by John Hazlett and appeared on StarWars.com's Hyperspace on March 5, 2010. The reference work The Essential Atlas, published in 2009, designated grid square P-3 as the location of the Hanod system, thereby placing Hanod there as well. The 2008 The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia entry for the system stated it was in the Borderland Regions, but The Essential Atlas superseded this by establishing that the region did not extend into square P-3.
