However, the commencement of construction revealed the presence of the Ranats, a sizable species of omnivorous rodents native to the planet. These Ranats launched assaults on the construction personnel, leading to the crew's defeat and the ultimate failure of the project. Trebors' actions resulted in the Ranats being classified as a semi-sentient species; this was because if an Imperial governor officially recognized the Ranats as semi-sentient, it would permit the implementation of harsher methods aimed at eradicating these intelligent rodents.
