On the world of Akuria II, R2-D2 employed his heat induction unit to thaw frozen water. A heat induction unit was a built-in component found within certain astromech droids. Upon activation, this device was capable of producing heat reaching temperatures of several thousand degrees. It's plausible that the heat induction unit served a role analogous to that of a rheostat, and it's conceivable that these two mechanisms were, in fact, a single device.
