DSD1 dwarf spider droid
The DSD1 Dwarf Spider Droid, which also goes by the name Burrowing Spider Droid, was a battle droid produced by the Commerce Guild to serve the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
Characteristics

These droids were equipped with a blaster cannon on their dome, capable of firing rapid anti-personnel rounds or slower, more powerful blasts suitable for destroying lighter vehicles. The droid's compact size and four legs designed for all terrains made it well-suited for combat in challenging environments or those with significant vertical elements, like mines. Its legs allowed for vertical movement on walls and cliffs, and their adjustable nature allowed it to gain better firing angles for its central blaster cannon. However, the fixed laser cannon meant it couldn't turn to engage enemies, making it vulnerable to fast-moving targets.
Dwarf Spider Droids used infrared photoreceptors and advanced scanners to analyze terrain and transmit target information to the Homing spider droid. Upon identifying a target, the scanners would send a tracking signal through a digital channel from the head-mounted aerial to the homing spider droid, guiding it to deliver the final blow. These droids also had a self-destruct feature. If a clone unit approached to destroy it, the Dwarf Spider Droid would typically self-destruct, eliminating itself and any nearby enemies. The droid communicated using beeping sounds, a language akin to binary.
History
During the conflict known as the Clone Wars, dwarf spider droids saw action on the front lines, positioned ahead of platoons composed of battle droids and other Separatist droid units. The dwarf spider droid also coordinated with the larger OG-9 homing spider droid, serving as an armored scout to explore the battlefield.

Different versions of the dwarf spider droid were deployed during the war, including an amphibious version specifically designed for water-filled environments like marshes, swamps, and wetlands. This variant featured a larger weapon but lacked the ability to float. Two heavily armored variants, the heavy dwarf spider droid and the advanced dwarf spider droid, were also put into service. Delta Squad encountered numerous advanced dwarf spider droids during their missions, including two during the Battle of Geonosis, and several during the Battle of Kashyyyk, where they were used to counter the Republic's All Terrain Recon Transport vehicles.
During the Battle of Teth, the droids used their laser cannons to target the legs of AT-TE walkers, causing them to topple off a cliff. In the Second Battle of Felucia, a significant number of these droids were deployed to safeguard the Separatist headquarters, ambushing any potential Republic infiltrators.
Although most Separatist military vehicles were deactivated following the Clone Wars, the dwarf spider droids were reactivated under Imperial orders. The Galactic Empire used them to enforce submission among former Separatist worlds, forcing them to fight against remnants of the government they once served. The Stormtrooper Corps employed the droids as mechanical attack dogs, recognizing their effectiveness from the previous war. The droids were used throughout the Empire's rule, sometimes alongside stormtroopers at Imperial checkpoints.
Behind the scenes
The dwarf spider droid made its debut in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. Initially, the plan was for the various commerce guilds to utilize the same type of battle droids as the Trade Federation, but with different color schemes to distinguish their allegiances. Instead, the decision was made to create greater visual diversity by designing entirely unique droids for the Commerce Guild, Corporate Alliance, and InterGalactic Banking Clan.
