Helm, in partnership with Vandel, were pioneering prospectors. They hold the distinction of being the initial discoverers of the planet Vandelhelm, which was ultimately christened in their honor. Around 3000 BBY, having navigated through the asteroid belt surrounding the world, they unearthed significant deposits of valuable metals and ores. Subsequently, they asserted the Galactic Republic's claim over the planet, and the two spacefarers then brought their families to this new world, establishing the Metalsmiths' Guild. For the subsequent thousand years, their families were regarded as the planet's ruling class.
