High Tongue

High Tongue represented a specific version of the Old Corellian language during the era of the Old Republic, existing over four millennia prior to the Battle of Yavin. It held the reputation of being "the language spoken by the elite", enjoying a higher status compared to other Old Corellian dialects, including Hoodish, Socorran, and Vulanish.

The Ensterite Corellians employed High Tongue; this group was known for their intense dedication to their loyalties and their disapproval of marriages outside their planet. Nevertheless, as time progressed, even the Ensterites shifted away from High Tongue, embracing Galactic Basic Standard instead, which superseded Old Corellian roughly four thousand years before the Battle of Yavin. Despite this shift, they continued to utilize High Tongue for important Ensterite ceremonies, such as the Purging Days.
