The hill people, originating from the planet Gala, were humanoid beings and one of the three Galacian races. They evolved into a separate race more than a hundred years prior to the Invasion of Naboo, and faced oppression due to their eyes being darker compared to the standard Galacian appearance. They escaped from the capital city, Galu, and established their homes in the lower mountains surrounding it. The hill people began to reintegrate into society only when Queen Veda of the Beju-Tallah dynasty announced in 44 BBY that a democratic election would determine who would succeed her. Elan, the hill people's leader, was revealed to be the initial offspring and inheritor of the previous King Cana. Opting to back Wila Prammi instead of competing in the election, Elan and the hill people decided to stay in their mountain settlements following the election, though they did start to foster improved ties with Galu's inhabitants.
