Imperial Decree A-SL-4557.607.232 represented a crucial piece of Imperial law. In essence, it sanctioned slavery across the galaxy if specific prerequisites were met. As per Imperial legal standards, individuals could be subjected to enslavement as a consequence for "offenses against public order". Furthermore, the decree simplified the practice, facilitating the activities of slave traders and their associations, who primarily restricted their operations to the Outer Rim Territories.

Behind the scenes

The Essential Atlas states that the Galactic Empire initially forbade the practice of slavery. However, subsequent parts of the same book suggest that the Empire later established slavery as a form of legal penalty for vaguely defined transgressions.
